    Senior political and industry figures to attend Asian Business Leaders Award ceremony

    Business leaders, British Government figures, Heads of Mission and representatives from more than 20 countries, will be among the dignitaries at the Asia House Asian Business Leaders Award ceremony next week to honour the achievements of Hitachi Chairman Hiroaki Nakanishi.

    UK Business Secretary Greg Clark will deliver the keynote address and present Mr Nakanishi the award, which recognises his extraordinary achievements in his five years at the helm of Hitachi. Mr Nakanishi has led Hitachi in the most remarkable turnaround in Japanese corporate history, his bold restructuring plans placing social innovation at the core of business development.

    Senior representatives from industries including rail, aerospace, technology, infrastructure, and financial and professional services will be among the guests at the event, which will be held at the prestigious Banqueting House in London.

    Douglas Flint, Chairman of HSBC; Paul Manduca, Chairman of Prudential; and Tracey Clarke, CEO for Europe and Americas at Standard Chartered, will be attending the awards, representing the founding stakeholders of Asia House in this its 20th anniversary year.

    Other senior business figures will include Sir Henry Keswick, Chairman of Jardine Matheson; Minoru Shinohara, Executive Chairman, EMEA, Nomura; Monte David, Managing Director of NTT Europe; and Masahiko Mochizuki, Deputy President and Senior Management Director, Mizuho International.

    Mr Clark, who has highlighted the importance of Japan as an investor in and partner with the UK, will formally present the award to Mr Nakanishi, who is the first Japanese business leader to receive the Asia House Asian Business Leaders Award.

    The First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones, and Lord Ahmad, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, will be among the other UK political figures at the awards ceremony, along with a number of MPs and senior officials from the Foreign Office and the Department for International Trade.

    Asian Governments will be well represented with 16 Heads of Mission and a further 10 officials in the audience. They include the Japanese Ambassador to the UK, HE Koji Tsuruoka; Indonesian Ambassador, HE Dr Rizal Sukma; and Philippines Ambassador, HE Evan Garcia, along with counterparts from Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and Vietnam.
