The South Korean Ambassador to the UK, HE Sungnam Lim, and AMEC CEO Samir Brikho, held a private briefing exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members on Tuesday 29 April. The event was particularly timely, following the resignation of Korean Prime Minister Chung Hong-won in response to the tragic sinking of the Sewol ferry earlier this month.

Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence, who chaired the event, offered condolences to the Ambassador on behalf of Asia House and its members. The guests and assembled business leaders then entered into a frank discussion covering a range of issues relating to Korea’s political and economic situation, as well as the immediate repercussions of the disaster.

Topics of discussion included President Park Geun-hye’s economic reform package, the impact of the EU-Korea Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the developments and agreements made during the Korean State visit of President Park to the UK in November 2013.

Companies represented at the briefing included ANZ, Arup, Barclays, Diageo, KPMG, Lloyds Bank and Standard Chartered.

Asia House private briefings are for corporate members only.

Our next private briefing for corporate members is Indonesia: Pre-Election Briefing, which will take place on 15 May with Mark Canning CMG, British Ambassador to Indonesia, and Peter Radcliffe, President International of Monitise.
