After her meeting with China’s Prime Minister Li Keqiang on 19 April, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini, issued a statement saying that in times of growing tensions and geopolitical unpredictability, the cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and the European Union has never been so important. Both have a joint responsibility to work together towards a more cooperative, rules-based global order. Topics discussed were Syria, North Korea and Iran.

She also referred to Xi Jinping’s speech at Davos earlier this year and the commitments he made on behalf of China to free trade, multilateralism and sustainable development. Mogherini: “More than ever, we must work together not only to uphold but to promote the rules-based international system which underpins our common prosperity and security.”
