European Commission, DG Trade: Updates on EU-FTAs with ASEAN members

Peter Berz, Head of Unit South and Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, at the Directorate General for Trade of the European Commission, joined Asia House corporate members this morning to discuss the current status and outlook of EU trade negotiations in Asia.

Topics discussed included the development of the FTA negotiations with Vietnam and Singapore, the progress of the EU-Japan FTA, the complexities of EU-ASEAN talks and post-Brexit trade prospects.

Peter worked as Deputy Head of Unit in the DG Trade responsible for trade relations with South and South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand until 2012. From 2002 to 2007, he acted as Deputy Head of the Trade Section of the Delegation of the European Commission in Washington, DC. Prior, he served from 2000 to 2002 at the DG for External Relations of the European Commission covering the relations with the U.S. and Canada.

Corporate members represented at the table included Kroll, Barclays, Diageo, Linklaters, UOB, Finsbury, Mitsui & Co, Hewlett Packard Enterprises, Aggreko and DWF.
