At the Belt and Road Summit in May this year, the European Investment Bank (EIB) confirmed its support for the Belt and Road Initiative. EIB, together with the Asian Development Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the New Development Bank, and the World Bank, signed an agreement with China which is expected to enable greater investment in infrastructure.
Jonathan Taylor, Vice President of the EIB, will brief Asia House corporate members on the bank’s operations in Asia, green finance, and China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
Jonathan Taylor has been Vice President of the EIB since 2013. As part of the EIB’s Management Committee, he has a role in drawing up the Bank’s financial and lending policies. He has particular responsibility over the Bank’s activities in several Asian countries including China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. He also leads the Bank’s work in climate action and in other environmental lending policies.
