For over 2000 years, acupuncture has been a central part of Chinese culture and healing, undergoing over time a myriad of transformations that reflect changes in society and people's needs. Where Five Elements acupuncture had for millennia been valued for its emotional and spiritual connection, during the Communist Revolution these aspects of the medicine were all but banished from the teachings, and the practice.
Today, as China moves through another great shift in its economy, society, culture and perspective, its people are starting to seek ancient methods to heal modern ailments. They are looking for something deeper than simply the physical. As a result, some of the original practices have begun to resurface both in China, the UK and the USA.
Bruce McCallum, clinic director, practitioner and teacher, and Aaron Deemer; co-director and practitioner of The Source Clinic and former New York Times photographer who has lived in China for 6 years, invite you to rediscover this spiritual world of medicine. Bruce and Aaron will discuss this classic medicine, exploring some of its myriad medical benefits as well as talking more about the system's recent resurgence, illustrated with photographs of modern China.
