On his first trip to Asia, Mark Field, Minister for Asia and the Pacific at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, has visited China, Hong Kong, South Korea and will next go to Singapore.

In China, he met with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing. According to China’s Foreign Ministry, Wang Yi said that the successful meeting between President Xi Jinping and UK Prime Minister Theresa May during the G20 Summit in July has charted the course for the development of bilateral relations in the next phase.

Field then met Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam who will make her first official visit as Chief Executive to the UK next month. Chief Executive Lam shared her vision for Hong Kong’s future development under the Belt and Road Initiative, an area where Hong Kong and the UK can explore new or enhanced collaboration in many sectors.

In South Korea, Field met Kim Young-woo, chair of the National Assembly Committee on National Defense before he will fly on to Singapore.

Minister Field will join Asia House corporate members for a private briefing following his trip to the region.
