Former US Ambassador to the EU Anthony Gardner outlined the future of the US administration under President Trump at a briefing with Asia House corporate members on Tuesday.

Key topics covered at the discussion included the United States’ withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership; Trump’s approach to globalisation; the future of US-EU relations; and China’s reaction to the changing global trading architecture.

Gardner, a former private equity executive, was sworn in as the US Ambassador to the EU in 2014. During his three-year stint, he was involved in the EU-US talks for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership.

Corporate members represented at the table included KPMG, Diageo, Arup, BHP Billiton, Linklaters, DWF, Mitsui & Co Europe, Rio Tinto, and UOB.

Watch an exclusive interview Gardner gave to Asia House following the briefing. What does the future hold for the Trump administration’s interaction with the EU? How will US-China trade tensions develop under Trump? Was the TPP a missed opportunity for the US?
