Greg Hands, UK Minister of State for Trade and Investment, joined Asia House corporate members this morning to discuss the Department of International Trade’s objectives for trade policy with countries outside the EU post-Brexit.

Topics discussed included the effect of increasing non-tariff barriers on services in the UK, appointments of trade commissioners for regions around the world and the prospect of the UK rolling over existing EU trade agreements.

Greg Hands was appointed Minister of State for Trade and Investment in July 2016, when the Department was first formed. He leads on high value export and investment campaigns in technology and smart cities, infrastructure, energy, healthcare and life sciences. His responsibilities also include cross-Whitehall alignment, UK Export Finance, policy direction on topics such as mergers and acquisitions, and overseas direct investment.

Corporate members represented at the briefing included Airbus, HSBC, GSK, Finsbury, KPMG, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, CIMB, Barclays, Linklaters, Mitsui & Co, Pfizer and Telstra.

This briefing was part of the Asia House Brexit Series.
