    Middle East and North Africa Director at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office Jane Marriott briefed Asia House corporate members on the ongoing geopolitical situation in the region at a private briefing this morning.

    Marriott, who had just returned from a trip to Saudi Arabia, spoke about the domestic politics in Saudi Arabia and Iran, the recent breakdown in relations between the two countries, the recent mass execution in Saudi Arabia of a prominent Shia cleric and 46 others, the conflict in Syria, falling oil prices, US and UK engagement in the region and her analysis of the economic and security situation in Qatar, the UAE, Egypt, Yemen, Iraq and other countries in the region.

    Corporate members represented at the table included Standard Chartered, HSBC, Bupa, G3, BG Group, Linklaters, Howard Kennedy and Nikkei.
