The UK Government’s blueprint for Brexit discussed at briefing

Alok Sharma, Minister for Asia and the Pacific, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, joined Asia House corporate members for a private briefing to discuss the UK’s trade prospects post-Brexit.

In the light of news that MPs overwhelmingly backed the European Union Bill, topics discussed at the briefing included where Brexit has left the UK’s relationship with Asia; the challenges and opportunities leaving the EU will present the UK economy; the UK Government’s blueprint for Brexit; opportunities and uncertainties in the year ahead; the UK’s relationship with the United States and President Trump; and the future of UK-China relations.

Alok Sharma was appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in July 2016. Mr Sharma has been the Prime Minister’s Infrastructure Envoy to India since January 2016.

Prior to entering Parliament, Mr Sharma qualified as a chartered accountant, working for 16 years within the banking sector, where he held senior roles based out of London, Stockholm and Frankfurt.

Corporate members represented at the table included Arup, HSBC, Mitsui & Co. Europe, Heathrow, GSK, University of Nottingham, Standard Chartered, UOB, RELX Group, and Prudential.
