UK Middle East Minister briefs Asia House corporate members

    Published On: 1 March 2018

Alistair Burt MP, UK Minister for the Middle East, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, officially launched the Asia House Middle East Programme this morning with an insightful briefing to Asia House corporate members.

Mr Burt, who has just returned from a visit to Saudi Arabia, covered a range of issues in the briefing, including the security situation in the region and the emerging trade opportunities for UK companies.

The exclusive briefing provided Asia House corporate members with unique analysis on the Middle East and the prevailing business and policy issues in the region.

Alistair Burt, the MP for North East Bedfordshire, was appointed Minister of State for the Department for International Development and Minister of State for Middle East at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in June 2017.

His current brief covers the geographies of the Middle East and North Africa, and the specific issues of trade, security and estates. He is a former Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, during which time he was responsible for British policy on Syria. He also represented the UK at the United Nations on issues relating to Israel and shaped UK policy on Afghanistan and South Asia, counter terrorism, and counter proliferation.

The briefing was the first in the new Asia House Middle East Programme – a series of private briefings, public events and research activity exploring the important role of the Middle East in the global economy, and its relationships with Asia and the West.
