Vientiane, the capital of Laos, is growing at 10 per cent, in a country growing at 7 per cent, making the city the fastest growing global economy.

The Laos capital accounts for 45 per cent of the nation’s GDP, and is enjoying an economic boom according to Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune, Governor of Vientiane.

The Governor was speaking in a meeting to members at Asia House today, leading a business delegation to London.

Vientiane is rapidly developing into a major regional transport hub with a new fast train link to China, a new highway project under the Belt and Road initiative. Vientiane has seen the number of cars in the city increase to over a million, from just 300 thousand five years ago.

The Governor spoke of the need for increased investment in the country especially in social infrastructure. He called on British firms to enter into partnerships with Laos to deliver world class facilities.
