Crawford Falconer, Chief Trade Negotiation Adviser, UK Government

With the UK now officially an independent trading nation, Asia House will welcome back Crawford Falconer, Chief Trade Negotiation Adviser and Second Permanent Secretary for the Department for International Trade, to update Corporate Members on the progress being made on the UK’s global trade agenda.

Falconer, who is central to UK trade negotiations, will outline the role the UK seeks to play in international trade amid a shifting geopolitical landscape, including London’s bid to join the CPTPP and its efforts to shape WTO reform. He will also discuss the priorities recently outlined by Liz Truss, Secretary of State for International Trade, including pushing for freer cross-border data flows, reform to trade in services, and using Great Britain’s “new global platform” to promote free and fair trade.

Prior to being appointed the UK’s Chief Trade Negotiator in the run-up to Brexit, Falconer was Special Trade Commissioner for the Legatum Institute. He has more than 25 years’ experience in the field of trade policy and negotiations, both for governments and independent organisations. Previously, he served as Deputy Secretary (Vice Minister) in the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and as Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization.

This digital briefing is held exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members. To register interest in attending, please contact Edward Danks at edward.danks@asiahouse.co.uk
