Aims of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank discussed at briefing

Dr. Joachim von Amsberg, Vice President, Policy and Strategy, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), gave a private briefing to Asia House corporate members on the aims and activities of the new Beijing-based multilateral bank.

Topics discussed included the broad objectives of the bank; its members and governance structure; its articles and aims; projects currently financed by the bank and the banks relationships with other multilateral institutions, including the World Bank.

The briefing preceded a public talk by von Amsberg to an audience of over 100 delegates at Asia House.

Before joining the AIIB, von Amsberg worked at the World Bank for 25 years where he was in charge of development finance, operations policy and country services, the Bank’s modernisation and reform agenda. He was also the Country Director for Indonesia and the Philippines. At the AIIB, his primary responsibilities are to develop and monitor the implementation of the Bank’s strategic agenda; to develop the policies and procedures for the Bank’s operational investment portfolio; to support the implementation of the Bank’s operational policies, including environment and social, procurement and financial management; and to oversee compliance with all of the Bank’s operational policies.
