Asia House launches ASEAN: From Vision to Reality

Asia House, the centre of expertise on Asia, has published a new publication ASEAN: From Vision to Reality, a collection of insights from Southeast Asia’s business and political leaders. The publication has been sponsored by AirAsia, a multinational airline group.

Contributions to the publication come from all 10 nations in the ASEAN bloc, as well as further afield, and include national leaders, government ministers, CEOs, chairmen and experts on the region.

Prominent voices including H.E. Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand; Mike Wells, Group Chief Executive, Prudential; Darmin Nasution, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Indonesia; and Dr. James Riady, CEO, Lippo Group, have contributed their insights for the publication on the future of the ASEAN integration process and how the region will come to play a pivotal role in the political and economic landscape.

In the past two decades ASEAN has become one of the most dynamic growth areas in the world, averaging around five per cent growth annually. The book shares unique insights from key decision makers in the region regarding the arising opportunities and the challenges that face ASEAN and its individual member nations.

Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint, Chairman, Asia House, said: “ASEAN’s hopes for the forthcoming decade are high. In a world that seems to be leaning towards protectionism, ASEAN’s focus on promoting integration as a key for success represents a clear break from this shift in ideology. With more than 625 million people, ASEAN is bringing both peace and prosperity to the most diverse corner of the world. The region’s demographics show a populace that is young, middle class, eager to succeed, and more exposed to the world than ever before.”

ASEAN: From Vision to Reality is Asia House’s second publication. Its first, Asia 2025, was published in March 2016.

Aireen Omar, CEO of AirAsia, spoke with Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence about the future of ASEAN integration, AirAsia’s pipeline, and why the airline chose to sponsor the publication. Click here to watch the interview.
