Driving commercial and political engagement between Asia, the Middle East and Europe
Recently appointed as the Philippines’ Special Envoy of the President to the People’s Republic of China for Special Concerns, current Philippine Ambassador to the UK Teodoro Locsin Jr. will speak with Asia House Corporate Members in an off-the-record, in-person briefing on China’s ascent as a global powerhouse and the impacts of this on Southeast Asia.
Moving beyond the surface of China’s rise, Ambassador Locsin will delve into the intricate web of China’s growing economic, political, and security involvement in Southeast Asia. Ambassador Locsin will explore the evolving implications of these factors on economic partnerships and trade agreements with neighbouring countries, as well as their impact on the territorial disputes and geopolitical tensions in the South China Sea.
As former Philippines’ Secretary of Foreign Affairs from 2018 to 2022 and former Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the United Nations, Ambassador Locsin will update members on the current state of China-Philippines diplomatic relations, which have escalated in recent weeks, and their implications on businesses in the region.
This briefing will be held in-person for Asia House Corporate Members and moderated by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE. To register interest, please email Thomas Scott-Bell, Programme Producer at thomas.scott-bell@asiahouse.co.uk
