UK-ASEAN Dialogue

ASEAN is set to be a long-term driver of global economic growth. With a population of over 600 million, a growing middle class and a combined GDP of about US$2.4 trillion, the region is already a dynamic and exciting market for the global business community. ASEAN countries have also become key players in the global investment arena with the total outward investment stock globally quadrupling over the past decade.

The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), expected to come into effect at the end of the year, promises to boost growth. But whilst much has been said about its potential, challenges remain ahead. Political uncertainties, cumbersome regulatory frameworks and differences in stages of development between the 10-member economies could undermine future progress.

The region is attracting growing global attention. Following the recent visit of Prime Minister David Cameron to South-East Asia, this high-level conference will provide an excellent platform for senior policymakers and business leaders to explore the key trends shaping the region and discuss the implications for business.
