US delegation in Beijing for latest trade talks

    Published On: 7 January 2019

Talks have resumed between China and the US as both sides try to find a resolution to the ongoing trade war.

An American delegation led by Deputy US Trade Representative Jeffrey Gerrish is in Beijing for two days of talks, and the early signs suggest they have had a positive start.

According to CNBC, China has said both sides have affirmed that they’re keen to strike a deal, while a photo tweeted from one of the meetings shows China’s top negotiator, Vice Premier Liu He, dropping in on proceedings – “a good sign,” according to one analyst.

The talks will explore ‘structural changes with respect to forced technology transfer, intellectual property protection, non-tariff barriers, cyber intrusions and cyber theft,’ the BBC reports, and will break on Tuesday.
