    Liu Xiaobo dies

    Nobel laureate Liu Xiaobo who campaigned for human rights in China has died of cancer, reports the BBC.

    The university professor, who was incarcerated in 2011 for an 11 year term in a Chinese prison for ‘subversion’, died aged 61 in hospital earlier today.

    Lui Xiaobo, born in 1955, called for the end to communist one party rule in China and published several books calling for democratic reforms.

    His most recent book ‘No Enemies, No Hatred’, was published by Harvard University Press in January 2012

    Liu Xiaobo is survived by his wife Liu Xia, who was placed under house arrest after his incarceration, according to the Guardian
