    Key experts assess the physical and economic impact of climate change

    Climate change is already affecting human, physical and natural systems around the world. This effect is likely to worsen over the coming years, as global temperatures rise. Asia House held a conference to examine both the physical and socio-economic risks of climate change.

    Welcome and keynote address

    Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint, Chairman of Asia House gave the welcome remarks at Asia House’s climate conference. Jonathan Woetzel, McKinsey Global Institute’s (MGI) Director and Senior Partner, presented the chilling findings from their report ‘Climate risk and response: Physical hazards and socioeconomic impacts’, which assesses the nature and extent of the physical risk associated with climate change.     Panel discussion: Policy context

    Afterwards, he discussed the wider policy context surrounding these climate risks on a panel with Dr Robert Falkner, Research Director of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, LSE.     Panel discussion: Financial context

    The conference concluded with a panel, which examined the financial context more closely. Specifically, it looked at what financial services can be used for both mitigation and adaption in response to climate risks. This panel was made up of experts from across the financial sector, including Dr Rhian-Mari Thomas OBE, Chief Executive of the Green Finance Institute, John Scott, Head of Sustainability Risk at the Zurich Insurance Group and Daniel Klier, Group Head of Strategy and Group Head of Sustainable Finance at HSBC.
