The Central People’s Government of China has approved Chief Executive-elect Carrie Lam’s principal official nominations for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s fifth-term Government. The new administration will assume office on 1 July.

Out of the 21 officials, six are incumbent ministers, four are incumbent deputy ministers who will be promoted to lead their own bureaus, and four are veteran civil servants. The top three government officials – Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung, Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen, and Secretary for Finance Paul Chan – will retain their positions, as will the heads of the Environmental Department, Home Affairs Department, and Innovation and Technology Bureau.

For full Ministerial appointments since the elections see here.

Chief Executive-elect Carrie Lam will be Hong Kong’s first female leader. She contributed to Asia 2025, Asia House’s first signature publication (in partnership with Prudential), and joined Asia House corporate members for a private briefing on Hong Kong’s role in the Belt and Road Initiative in September last year.
