Lord Green’s inaugural speech as Asia House Chairman
Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint will give his inaugural speech as Chairman of Asia House.
In the light of changing global dynamics, his speech will provide an outlook for Asia’s prospects and challenges.
Asia House’s mission to drive economic and political engagement between Europe and Asia has never been more pertinent. 2016 saw a number of political and economic changes around the globe, creating an uncertain atmosphere for businesses working across all sectors.
In response to the UK’s decision to the leave the EU in June 2016, Asia House initiated the Asia House Brexit Series to advise and inform corporate members, clients and government officials on navigating the extraordinary shift in the economic and political landscape. The year ahead will see Asia House continue to provide clarity on the ambiguity raised by evolving global dynamics, focus on Asia’s response, and outline opportunities in this region.
Lord Green joined the Asia House Board of Trustees in 2014 and has extensive international business and governmental experience. He was Minister of State for Trade and Investment from 2011 to 2013, responsible for all matters relating to trade and investment in both the former Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Prior to this, he was Group Chairman of HSBC from 2006 until 2010.
Lord Green succeeded Sir John Boyd as Chairman of Asia House on 1 January 2017. Sir John assumed the role of Chairman in January 2010. Sir John has been appointed Honorary President in recognition of his contributions to Asia House.
This invitation-only event will bring together senior business figures, the diplomatic community from Europe and Asia, and UK government representatives and will be followed by a reception.
