Lunchtime briefing with Mari Kiviniemi, Deputy Secretary-General of OECD

Mari Kiviniemi, Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD, will join Asia House corporate members for a lunchtime briefing to discuss the economic outlook for OECD countries in the new global trade order.

The OECD’s Global Economic Outlook for 2017, released on 7 June, maintains its prediction of 3.5 per cent global GDP growth in 2018, and states that international trade growth has improved, though remained less robust than pre-crisis levels. It summarises that although the outlook does look better, it is still ‘not good enough to sustainably improve citizens’ well-being.’

Domestic demand growth is set to remain high in many Asian economies and is supported by strong policy-supported investment in infrastructure and improved external demand from nations such as China. However financial vulnerabilities, geopolitical shocks and trade protectionism continue to cloud and loom over the projections.

Ms Kiviniemi’s role at the OECD consists of sharing her extensive experience to help increase the impact and relevance of OECD work and to contribute to the public policy challenges of promoting inclusive growth, jobs, equality and trust. She served as Finland’s Prime Minister from 2010 to 2011.

Attendance at this briefing is by invitation only. To register your interest, please contact David Shui-Jezierski in the Business & Policy Team at david.shui-jezierski@asiahouse.co.uk or call 0207 307 5438.
