Indonesia’s Finance Minister on regional and global issues

Indonesia’s Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati will brief Asia House corporate members on the economic climate in Indonesia, regional and global issues and Jakarta’s responses.

At the House of Representatives complex last month, Sri Mulyani said that the government may need to borrow money to cover spending on certain sectors, mainly education, health and infrastructure.

President Jokowi appointed Sri Mulyani as the country’s new finance minister in July 2016 as part of a wider cabinet reshuffle aimed at increasing the effectiveness of his team. She was first selected as Finance Minister in 2005 by then President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, remaining in the position until 2010.

She was appointed as the World Bank Group’s Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer after leaving government in 2010. In this position, she was responsible for operations worldwide.

In 2006, she was named as the best Minister of Finance in Asia by the Emerging Markets in the side-lines of World Bank and IMF’s Annual Session in Singapore. In 2016, she was ranked as the 37th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes magazine.

This briefing is for corporate members only. Please contact Conor Paterson in the Business & Policy Team at conor.paterson@asiahouse.co.uk or call 0207 307 5439, for more details.
