Edward Yau outlines Hong Kong’s role in shifting global landscape

    Published On: 21 May 2019

Hong Kong’s position in the global economy and its involvement in China’s ambitious Greater Bay Area plans were discussed during an Asia House briefing with Edward Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Hong Kong SAR.

Speaking to Asia House Corporate Members on 21 May, Secretary Yau gave an overview of Hong Kong’s economic performance against a challenging global environment, as well as the areas of strength where Hong Kong is particularly competitive.

The briefing, chaired by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence, saw questions from Corporate Members on the progress of the Greater Bay Area project, the prospect of further Hong Kong integration with mainland China, and the effectiveness of the World Trade Organization in today’s economic landscape and in light of the ongoing US-China trade war.

Secretary Yau visited Asia House as part of an official delegation to the UK, during which he also met UK Trade Secretary Liam Fox and Mark Field, UK Minister of State for Asia and the Pacific.

The Asia House off-the-record briefing was held exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members.
