Indonesia’s economic landscape and the priorities facing re-elected President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) were the main points of discussion during an Asia House briefing with His Excellency Bambang Brodjonegoro, Indonesian Minister for National Development Planning, and Dr Perry Warjiyo, Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI).
Speaking to Asia House Corporate Members, Brodjonegoro outlined the priorities for the Ministry for National Development Planning (Bappenas) during President Jokowi’s new five-year term, with a particular focus on developing both physical and social infrastructure. The importance of economic diversification, regional development and supporting the development of Indonesia’s digital economy were highlighted.
Meanwhile, Governor Warjiyo gave an assessment of Indonesia’s economy and highlighted the possible role that the Central Bank is going to play over the next five years. The Governor also considered how the bank can help further develop and enhance some of the administration’s priorities, particularly around infrastructure financing and the digital economy.
Moderated by Michael Lawrence, Chief Executive of Asia House, the briefing provided unique insights and clarity from the top levels of the Indonesian government about the possible changes to come for ASEAN’s largest economy.
The off-the-record briefing was held exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members.
