Trust between negotiators the key to US-China trade deal, says Victor Chu

    Published On: 3 July 2019

Asia House Advisory Board member Victor Chu, Chairman of First Eastern Investment Group, shared his analysis on the US-China trade tensions with Bloomberg this week, calling for clarity for the investment community.

Chu identified trust between the negotiating parties as a key issue inhibiting a deal between the US and China, which US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has described as “90 per cent there.”

Speaking live on Bloomberg from the World Economic Forum in Dalian, Chu said “the trust issue between the negotiation teams is key,” but expressed optimism that a deal can be made “while recognising there’s a journey.”

Asked about the impact of the trade war and other factors, such as Brexit, on the global investment environment, Chu had a simple message. “People want clarity, whatever it may be. Get on with it.”
