Asia House Corporate Members were briefed by Greg Hands, Minister of State for Trade Policy, on the UK’s trade agenda as it builds new, post-Brexit relationships around the world.
The Minister discussed the recently-agreed UK-Japan trade deal, before outlining the progress being made in negotiations with trading partners including the US, Australia and ASEAN members.
The briefing was convened at Asia House, with a limited number of Corporate Members joining the socially-distanced meeting and others taking part digitally.
Questions put to the Minister included those on UK-China trade relations; the timeline for the UK’s proposed accession to the CPTPP; and the approach to geopolitical challenges within the Asia Pacific region. The UK’s position on WTO reform and dispute settlements was also raised.
The off-the-record briefing, held on 15 October, was chaired by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence, and was convened exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members.
