Allan Gepty shares Philippines’ trade outlook

    Published On: 11 May 2022

The Philippines’ trade performance and its economic recovery from the COVID-19 crisis were central to an Asia House briefing with Allan Gepty, The Philippines’ Assistant Secretary for Industry Development and Trade Policy, today (11 May).

Speaking from Manila, the Assistant Secretary updated Asia House Corporate Members on the Philippines’ trade strategy, including free trade deals currently in play and those being developed. He also discussed the country’s strategy for economic growth out of the COVID-19 crisis, including the sectors being prioritised and how the Philippines is positioning itself in global supply chains.

Gepty took a range of questions from Asia House Corporate Members who joined the digital briefing from around the world. He was asked about the Philippines’ role in the global trade system, its competitiveness in sectors such as manufacturing, and his thoughts on regional agreements such as CPTPP and RCEP. The impact of the incoming presidential administration on the Philippines’ trade strategy was also discussed in the off-the-record discussion, chaired by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence.

The briefing was held exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members. Find out more about the benefits of Corporate Membership at Asia House.
