EBRD President shares outlook amid economic and geopolitical instability

    Published On: 20 October 2022

Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), shared her assessment of the global economy amid geopolitical instability and the ongoing energy crisis during an Asia House briefing on 18 October.

Speaking with Corporate Members, President Renaud-Basso discussed the EBRD’s work supporting economies across Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and shared her takeaways from the recent IMF meetings in Washington DC.

The Russia-Ukraine crisis, infrastructure investment, and the Bank’s green agenda were also discussed in the off-the-record briefing, convened at Asia House’s London HQ.

Corporate Members put a range of questions to the President, who was asked about the EBRD’s current thinking on energy policy, such as its position on natural gas, the effect the energy crisis is having on its green agenda, and the European Union’s carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM). Renaud-Basso was also asked about infrastructure projects across central Asia, the EBRD’s relations with India and China, and concerns over political stability in Europe amid the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

Moderated by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence, the briefing gave Corporate Members unique insights into the economic and political outlook across Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
