    Alicia Kearns, Chair of the UK’s Foreign Affairs Select Committee briefed Asia House Corporate Members on UK-China relations and the UK government’s broader foreign policy agenda on Tuesday, 6 June.

    The briefing focused on discussing the changing nature of the UK’s bilateral ties with China based on contemporary geopolitical and economic trends. Kearns highlighted what to expect from the UK’s foreign policy outlook towards tackling global security threats and forging stronger bonds with strategic partners.

    In an environment of rising tensions between the West and China, Kearns addressed the UK’s position on trade and diplomatic relations with China and placed emphasis on the need for self-reliance in the domestic sphere. Kearns also asserted on recognising the importance of national security to build capacity towards economic prosperity.

    Chaired by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE and held at the think tank’s London headquarters, the briefing gave Asia House Corporate Members a unique insight into the UK’s current strategic outlook on China, along with a roadmap outlining the future of bilateral ties between the two nations.
