Nigel Huddleston MP briefed Asia House Corporate Members on the UK’s international trade agenda, the India-UK free trade agreement, the UK’s accession to CPTPP and ongoing trade negotiations with partners throughout Asia on Wednesday, 12 July. Appointed as UK Minister of State for International Trade in February of this year, Minister Huddleston discussed the UK’s business and trade ambitions across the global markets and also highlighted the role of the Department of Business and Trade in these endeavours.
The minister spoke extensively on the rapid industrial growth in the Indo-Pacific region, followed by an enriching discussion on the India-UK free trade agreement amid ongoing negotiations between the two nations. Minister Huddleston also highlighted the UK’s ambition to become a leading global investment centre, along with emphasising how the Department of Business and Trade contributes to supporting British businesses to grow globally by reducing trading barriers. The minister also highlighted how the UK’s recent inclusion in the CPTPP will turbocharge trade in the Asia Pacific region.
Chaired by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE and held at the think tank’s London headquarters, the briefing gave Asia House Corporate Members a unique insight into the UK Department of Business and Trade’s endeavours and its aims towards accelerating growth through increased ties with global emerging markets.
