Taufiq Rahman, Editor-In-Chief of The Jakarta Post
Taufiq Rahman, Editor-in-Chief of The Jakarta Post, will share his insights on the upcoming elections and their potential implications for Indonesia’s economic growth trajectory and policy direction at an exclusive Asia House Briefing in Jakarta.
The impending Presidential elections scheduled for February 2024 will mark the conclusion of President Joko Widodo’s two-term leadership. Jokowi, the first President elected from outside of Indonesia’s political elites, introduced significant reforms during his tenure. Under his lead Indonesia has aimed to elevate its global influence and engagement with the international community, including through its 2022 G20 Presidency and the ongoing 2023 ASEAN chairmanship.
With only six months remaining until the February 2024 elections, Taufiq will delve into the race to lead Southeast Asia’s largest economy. Speculations have emerged regarding President Jokowi’s alleged involvement in influencing his successor, reportedly supporting both Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, a member of his own party, and the current Defense Minister and Gerindra Party chair Prabowo Subianto. As the electoral race intensifies, Taufiq will shed light on key aspects to watch, including the selection of running mates and the various electoral coalitions supporting each candidate.
Taufiq Rahman took over as chief editor for The Jakarta Post in October 2020, after serving as deputy chief editor for three years. He has been with the Post since 2004, moving up the rank from the position of a political reporter. Established in 1983, The Jakarta Post serves as a valuable resource for a deeper understanding of Indonesia’s dynamic social, political, and economic landscape.
The roundtable discussion will be moderated by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE. To express interest in this event please contact Evie Cramb, Manager, Chairman and CEO Office: evie.cramb@asiahouse.co.uk
