Nusrat Ghani MP, UK Minister of State for Industry and Economic Security at the Department for Business and Trade and Minister of State for the Investment Security Unit at the Cabinet Office provided Asia House Corporate Members with the latest updates on the UK’s critical minerals and supply chain strategies at an off-the-record briefing on Tuesday, 19 March.
Minister Ghani provided a detailed overview of current geopolitical issues impacting UK supply chains. The Minister’s recent trips to Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia were also discussed at the briefing, as was an overview of the government’s Critical Imports and Supply Chains Strategy and Critical Minerals Strategy – the latter of which was refreshed last year.
Asia House Corporate Members asked Minister Ghani’s views on a wide range of topics, including continued engagement with China, potential tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles from the UK government, as well as the UK’s semiconductor and domestic mineral strategy.
Chaired by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE and held at the think tank’s London headquarters, the briefing offered Asia House Corporate Members valuable insights into the role of Asia and the Middle East in building resilience in UK supply chains.
