    Published On: 18 April 2024

Raphael P.M. Lotilla, Secretary of Energy of the Philippines, provided Asia House Corporate Members with the latest updates on the Philippines’ clean energy transition and energy policy developments at an off-the-record digital briefing on Thursday, 18 April.

Secretary Lotilla discussed the Philippines’ exploration in the South China Sea and the challenges associated with transitioning the country’s privately-owned, market-driven, and unsubsidised energy sector. Bankability of power projects in the Philippines as well as opportunities for FDI in the renewable energy sector were also discussed at the briefing.

Asia House Corporate Members asked Secretary Lotilla for his views on a wide range of topics, including technologies to deploy renewable energy in off-grid areas of the archipelago and the potential of imposing a carbon tax in the Philippines. Businesses were also keen to hear about the possibility of a Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) for the Philippines and how the international community can support the government in its energy transition efforts.

Chaired by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE and held digitally, the briefing offered Asia House Corporate Members valuable insights from the government on the Philippines’ energy transition.
