Airlangga Hartarto, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, provided Asia House with the latest updates on Indonesia’s economic outlook and investment environment at an off-the-record briefing on Monday 29 April.

Coordinating Minister Hartarto discussed Indonesia’s recent election, the country’s OECD accession plans and energy transition in the country. Indonesia’s ambitious plans to grow its digital economy, develop a new semiconductor ecosystem and the continued advancement of its commodity downstreaming policy were also discussed at the briefing. The Coordinating Minister was joined by Indonesia’s Vice Trade Minister, Dr Jerry Sambuaga, who discussed Indonesia’s trade relationship with the UK and updates on the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) between the two countries.

Asia House Corporate Members asked the Coordinating Minister his views on a wide range of topics, including ASEAN-Middle East relations, supply chain reconfiguration away from China to Indonesia and the country’s long-term plans to improve efficiency in its workforce.

Chaired by Asia House Director of Corporate Affairs Charlie Humphreys and held at the think tank’s London headquarters, the briefing offered Asia House Corporate Members valuable insights into Indonesia’s future administration, headed by President-elect Prabowo Subianto Djojohadikusumo.
