Asia House Digital Briefing with Harjinder Kang, HM Trade Commissioner for South Asia and British Deputy High Commissioner for Western India
Harjinder Kang, His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for South Asia and British Deputy High Commissioner for Western India, will join us from Mumbai for an exclusive Corporate Members digital briefing on Wednesday 6 November.
Kang will provide key updates on India-UK relations, the progress of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), and India’s political economy following the recent budget and general elections. Additionally, he will share his perspectives on India’s growing diplomatic influence, particularly in relation to the US and China.
Kang has served as HM Trade Commissioner for South Asia since May 2023, where he oversees the Department for Business and Trade’s work in Bangladesh, India, the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Prior to this, he was the UK’s Chief Negotiator for the UK-India FTA, playing a pivotal role in advancing bilateral trade talks. He has also held senior roles in the Department for International Trade, focusing on Intellectual Property, Government Procurement, and Trade Policy.
Before entering public service, Harjinder spent nearly 30 years in the private sector, where he rose to the position of Global Commercial Director at AstraZeneca. He was instrumental in developing strategies to provide affordable pharmaceuticals to underserved regions.
