Ralph Gonzalez Recto, the Philippines’ Secretary of Finance, provided Asia House Corporate Members with the latest updates on the Philippine economy during an off-the-record briefing on Wednesday 30 October.

Secretary Recto discussed the Philippines’ medium- to long-term growth targets and key economic sectors, outlining government plans to enhance workforce skills, create more quality jobs, and drive progress towards achieving middle-income status.

Asia House Corporate Members posed questions on a wide range of topics, including political developments in the Philippines, the country’s engagement with ASEAN and developments in the South China Sea. Secretary Recto was joined by senior government officials from the Philippines, including Frederick D. Go, Secretary of the Office of the Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs (OSAPIEA), and Raphael P.M. Lotilla, Secretary of Energy. Members also inquired about the Philippines’ strategies for developing its downstream mineral industry and advancing renewable energy initiatives.

Chaired by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE, the briefing offered a unique opportunity to engage directly with senior cabinet secretaries on the Philippines’ economic and development agenda.
