Asia House Briefing with Martin Kent, HM Trade Commissioner for Asia Pacific

Martin Kent, His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner (HMTC) for Asia Pacific, will join us at Asia House for a Corporate Members briefing on Tuesday, 26 November.

Commissioner Kent will provide key updates on the UK government’s trade and investment strategy in Asia Pacific, as well as insights on the new UK-Thailand Enhanced Trade Partnership. Visiting Asia House just 18 days before the UK’s formal accession to the CPTPP, Kent will discuss the opportunities and challenges this agreement presents for UK businesses. He will also share reflections on his recent visits to Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, and Laos, highlighting the trade and investment outlook in the region.

Additionally, he will offer perspectives on shifting supply chains, including the strategic move away from China, and key geopolitical and territorial issues impacting trade in Asia Pacific.

Martin Kent has been HM Trade Commissioner for Asia Pacific since 2023, overseeing trade and investment across a region that includes some of the world’s most dynamic economies. Previously, he held senior roles in the Department for International Trade and brings extensive experience in international business development and policy.

This off-the-record briefing will be moderated by Asia House Head of Programmes David Taylor, and offers Corporate Members a unique opportunity to engage directly with a senior UK official at the forefront of UK-Asia relations.
