Amir Hamzah Azizan, Malaysia’s Minister of Finance II
Amir Hamzah Azizan, Malaysia’s Minister of Finance II, will brief Asia House Corporate Members on Malaysia’s fiscal policy, economic development and regional cooperation in an off-the-record in-person briefing on Monday, 22 April at Asia House in London.
Minister Amir Hamzah will be arriving in London fresh from his visit to Washington DC for the Spring Meetings of the IMF. Appointed in December 2023 as part of a cabinet reshuffle, Minister Amir Hamzah will share insights on Malaysia’s economy, which achieved moderate growth in 2023 amid slower global trade, a global tech downcycle, geopolitical tensions and tighter monetary policies.
Tasked with delivering Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s flagship Madani Economy Framework, the Amir Hamzah will brief members on how the government plans to achieve economic annual growth of four to five per cent in 2024 and elevate Malaysia into a top 30 global economy over the next 10-years. The Madani Economy Framework also aims to promote Malaysia as an attractive destination for foreign investment.
Additionally, the Minister will be asked to update members on Malaysia’s economic relationship with actors in the region, including ASEAN, the US and China.
Formerly the CEO of Malaysia’s Employees Provident Fund (EPF), Malaysia’s new Finance Minister II has held several executive and non-executive roles, including CEO of Tenaga Nasional Bhd from April 2019 to February 2021.
The briefing will be held exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members and moderated by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE. To register interest, please email Thomas Scott-Bell, Programme Producer: thomas.scott-bell@asiahouse.co.uk
