Angela Ellard, Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organization

World Trade Organization (WTO) Deputy Director-General Angela Ellard will speak with Asia House Corporate Members in an off-the-record digital briefing on the latest developments at the WTO.

Speaking from Geneva, Deputy Director-General Ellard will brief corporate members on the WTO’s reform agenda and key priorities, and will share her assessment of the current challenges facing the organization.

Deputy Director-General Ellard will discuss the role of the WTO in addressing global crises including the war in Ukraine and climate change. As some countries begin to turn increasingly inward, the Deputy Director-General will share the WTO’s vision for re-globalisation of global trade, as well as her expectations on the upcoming WTO Ministerial Conference in Abu Dhabi next June.

Ellard has served as WTO Deputy Director-General since June 2021. Prior to her appointment, she had a distinguished career serving in the US Congress as Majority and Minority Chief Trade Counsel for over 26 years. She is internationally recognised as an expert on trade and international economic policy, resolving trade and investment barriers, negotiating trade agreements, and supporting multilateral solutions as part of an effective trade and development policy.

This off-the-record digital briefing is being convened exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members and will be moderated by Michael Lawrence OBE, Chief Executive of Asia House.
