    ASEAN Secretary-General Breakfast Briefing

    ASEAN Secretary-General Le Luong Minh will give a private briefing under the Chatham House Rule for Asia House corporate members followed by roundtable discussion. The Secretary-General will discuss the current geopolitical and economic developments within Southeast Asia and the progress being made towards the founding of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015.

    Prior to his appointment as ASEAN Secretary-General HE Le Luong Minh served as Viet Nam’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs. ASEAN Leaders endorsed him as ASEAN Secretary-General for 2013-2017.

    From 2004 to 2011, Mr. Minh was Viet Nam’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative to the United Nations. From August 2007 to December 2008, he was concurrently Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and from December 2008 till the end of his tenure in June 2011 concurrently Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs.

    Mr Minh has had a long career in Viet Nam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which began in 1975. He was appointed Deputy Director-General for International Organizations in 1993. In 1995, he was appointed as Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva. Two years later, he was appointed as Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.
