Asia House in conversation with the Bank of England’s Chief Economist – 10 July
Huw Pill, Chief Economist and Executive Director for Monetary Analysis at the Bank of England, will discuss the UK economic outlook at an exclusive Asia House event on 10 July, less than a week after the Labour Party’s general election victory.
Labour’s return to power after 14 years of Conservative rule coincides with gradually improving economic conditions, marked by inflation recently falling to two per cent. Financial markets are reacting positively to the landslide win, indicating a boost in confidence due to the renewed political stability in the UK. Investors are likely to focus next on monetary policy, with the Bank of England widely expected to lower interest rates at its August or September meetings.
Pill, who also serves on the interest-rate setting Monetary Policy Committee, will provide valuable insights into inflation and the interest rate outlook, along with economic and trade relations between the UK and Asia under the new Labour administration.
Following his presentation, Pill will also take questions directly from the audience in a Q+A session.
The session will be moderated by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE.
