Breakfast Briefing with HE Mr Ranjan Mathai
The recently appointed Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, HE Mr Ranjan Mathai will join corporate members for a private briefing held under the Chatham House Rule followed by roundtable discussion. The High Commissioner will discuss a range of issues including the implications for foreign investors of the new Companies Act passed last year, and India’s forthcoming elections.
Ranjan Mathai joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1974. During his nearly 40-year long diplomatic career, he has held positions in the Indian Missions in Vienna, Colombo, Washington, Tehran and Brussels. He served as the Deputy High Commissioner of India in London during 2005-2007.
Mr Mathai has served as the Ambassador of India in Israel, Qatar and France.
In the Ministry of External Affairs of India, he has held several key positions, including as Head (Joint Secretary) of the Division responsible for India’s relations with Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Maldives.
He was Foreign Secretary of India (August 2011 – July 2013) before taking up his assignment as the High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom.
