Catherine West MP, UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Indo-Pacific)
Catherine West MP, UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Indo-Pacific), will brief Asia House Corporate Members on the new UK government’s China and broader Indo-Pacific strategy, at an off-the-record in-person briefing on Thursday 10 October at Asia House in London.
Speaking at Asia House just ahead of the government’s first 100 days in office, Minister West will touch on several global challenges facing the administration. These include instability in the Middle East, rising tensions in the South China Sea, the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict and a turbulent US Presidential election.
Following its landslide electoral victory in July, the new Labour government has assumed office having committed to “reconnect” the UK with global partners. Reflecting on this commitment, Minister West will brief Corporate Members on Britain’s trade and security outlook in the Indo-Pacific under the new administration.
Minister West will also outline the UK government’s trade, political and security relationship with China, providing updates on the government’s ongoing audit of the bilateral relationship. In addition, Minister West will discuss the UK’s trade and security relationship with other key regional actors, including India, Japan and ASEAN countries.
The briefing will be held exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members and moderated by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE.
