The Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia, Y.B. Datuk Ignatius Darell Leiking, will join Asia House Corporate Members for a private, off the record briefing on Monday 27 January.

Underpinned by resilient domestic demand, Malaysia’s economic and trade outlook for 2020 appears positive, with an estimated two per cent growth in exports and steady GDP growth of 4.5 per cent. 2020 is also a significant year for Malaysia as it plays host to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, welcoming 16,000 delegates from 21 economies that represent 60 per cent of global GDP and four per cent of total international trade. With APEC due to draft new long-term goals, Malaysia will play an important role in leading the recalibration of priorities for APEC members and the development of a new vision for the forum.

During this briefing, Datuk Darell Leiking will outline his views on Malaysia’s economic outlook and priorities for the Malaysian government as it looks to embrace Industry 4.0 as it transitions towards a high value economy and adapt to the effects of the US-China trade war on global supply chains.
