    Doubling-down on Abenomics

On 22 March, Asia House will be hosting a lecture by Professor Seijiro Takeshita, Dean and Professor of Management and Information at the University of Shizuoka in partnership with the Embassy of Japan.

The Japanese economy is doing better than it has been in a decade; results in November 2017 showed that it had grown for seven straight quarters, the longest period of expansion since 2001. Japan is enjoying full employment, with more women joining the workforce; small and medium sized enterprises are thriving; and inflation was reported to be moving towards the Bank of Japan’s two per cent target.

Much of this success is credited to ‘Abenomics’, introduced by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who took power in 2012. Prompting change in corporate governance received high approval rate, but what are the consequences of transforming Japan’s governance style? Prime Minister Abe wants to leverage his recent sweeping election victory to give ‘ Abenomics’ another push and deliver on his promises of structural reform.

Professor Takeshita will discuss Abenomics as a growth engine for the Japanese economy at a lecture organised by Asia House in partnership with the Embassy of Japan on 22 March. The lecture will be followed by a networking lunch.
