Dr V Anantha Nageswaran, Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India
Dr V Anantha Nageswaran, Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India, will brief Asia House Corporate Members on India’s election, fiscal policy, and economic growth at an off-the-record Asia House digital briefing on Tuesday, 11 June.
Speaking from New Delhi following the conclusion of the world’s biggest election, Dr Nageswaran will share his insights on the results and prospects of policy continuity, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliance winning a third term in office.
Dr Nageswaran will update corporate members on the world’s fastest-growing major economy, which has weathered geopolitical risks, an economic slowdown in China (India’s largest trading partner) and a sluggish global economy to record 8.4 per cent growth in Q4 2023. Dr Nageswaran will also discuss potential inflationary challenges to the economy from exceeding its potential growth rate, as well as labour, land, and capital market reforms to boost the country’s output.
India’s energy transition, economic relations with strategic partners including the US, and its growing role in the reconfiguration of global supply chains will also be discussed.
This off-the-record digital briefing will be moderated by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE, and will provide members with an exclusive opportunity to engage with India’s most senior economic adviser.
