Gareth Davies CB, Permanent Secretary of the UK Department for Business and Trade
Gareth Davies CB, Permanent Secretary of the UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT) will brief Asia House Corporate Members on the UK’s international trade policy direction and the new department’s agenda throughout the Indo-Pacific.
Speaking shortly after the UK concluded its largest international trade deal since Brexit, Davies will discuss the benefits that the country’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) will bring to businesses and what this means for the UK economy. By joining the CPTPP, the UK has gained greater trade access to some of the world’s fastest-growing economies across the Indo-Pacific. During this discussion Davies will outline not just the opportunities associated with CPTPP, but also how DBT will continue to actively support British businesses to ensure they extract the full benefit from this comprehensive agreement.
Davies will also touch upon the newly formed DBT’s trade portfolio and its close links to government policy on business and industrial strategy. The UK’s growing economic ties with Asia and updates on the Joint Economic and Trade Committees (JETCOs) with Indonesia, Thailand, and India, will also be discussed.
The in-person briefing, moderated by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence, will be convened exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members. To register interest, please email Thomas Scott-Bell, Programme Producer: thomas.scott-bell@asiahouse.co.uk
